CDL DOT Driver Physical $110

Effective May 21, 2014, all medical examiners performing DOT physicals must be trained and certified by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FCMSA). We have trained FMCSA medical examiners on staff 7 days per week.

Federal law requires drivers of commercial motor vehicles to receive and pass regular physical examinations.  These DOT physicals are highly regulated for the drivers’ safety and reflect physical, mental and emotional issues that may affect a driver’s ability to safely operation a commercial vehicle.

The basic requirements for passing a DOT physical exam under the new standards are:

  • At least 20/40 vision in each eye. Please bring your glasses or contacts!
  • Need to be able to distinguish colors found on traffic signals.
  • Forced whisper test to detect adequate hearing at 6 feet or more.
  • Controlled blood pressure under 140/90.
  • No use of a controlled substance, amphetamine, narcotic or habit-forming drug.
  • Marijuana use is disqualifying even for medical purposes.

Before you arrive at our office for your DOT exam, please have the following:

___ Your glasses or contact lenses if you use these for driving.

___ Your hearing aids if you wear these.

___ Your driver's license and last DOT certificate if you have one.

___ All prescription medication bottles you take or an accurate list of your medications.

___ Take any required medication prior to your visit including blood pressure medication.

___ Avoid all caffeine on the day of exam as it may elevate your blood pressure reading.

___ Diabetes: Bring a copy of your hemoglobin A1C test result within the past 3 months.

___ If on insulin, you will need a form completed by the prescribing doctor.

___ Heart condition: Your most recent stress test result and clearance from cardiology.

___ Sleep apnea: A copy of your latest CPAP compliance report.
